We’re excited to be offering a wide variety of exciting, safe theatre classes this fall!

Young artists develop their creative and dramatic talents over 12 classes supported by our professional teaching artists. Our theatre classes are a fun way to keep students active outside of their school, whether they’re learning theatre games, gaining skills in improvising, learning the ins-and-outs of filmmaking or playwriting, creating props and costumes through imagination-based stories, studying scene work, or auditioning for our SKAM Young Company!

SAFER AND SMALLER CLASS SIZES

We’re offering a variety of classes both after school and for home learners during the daytime. Student safety is always a top priority for us. We’ll be following our COVID-19 policies, as informed by the BC COVID-19 Go Forward Management Strategy issued by the province; this includes smaller classes limited to 10 participants, extra cleaning in-between classes, large studio spaces, and final performances being recorded and sent out for viewing.

We also require masks be worn by students when arriving at and departing from all classes. Please note, some classes may be taught by artists or have students who are immunocompromised or in a household with immunocompromised individuals – if this is the case, we will give advance notice that wearing a mask will be required for all students throughout the class.

Please email Kate Wallace, School Administrator at schooladmin@skam.ca should you have any further questions.

Choosing to learn from home this fall? We’re looking into offering an additional 2.5 hour theatre class on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings at our Satellite Studio. Please fill out this form to let us know if you’d be interested in registering.

SKAM Young Company (Ages 12-17)

The SKAM Young Company  is a program for youth who are excited to create their own play and want to make a commitment to their training. Students build their dramatic skills by exploring voice, movement, improvisation, writing, and collaboration. The Company members create a short ensemble  performance together.

Students are encouraged to participate in this group from September to May. The fall term is spent building skills and a strong, collaborative work ethic to present a short draft version of a play performed for an audience in December. In the winter/spring, the creative work continues by devising, writing, and performing the Company’s own work in a professional and public setting. Both fall and spring performances are non-negotiable and part of the commitment to the program. Collaboration and commitment to the ensemble is a crucial part of the learning and it gives students an amazing opportunity to develop overall performance skills.

Each student will be supported and encouraged to grow in their dramatic skill development and confidence. Theatre skill level, maturity, commitment and ability to work well with others are all important components that are considered when a student applies for this class.

* Entry is by audition only. We encourage students to participate in Fall &  Winter/Spring (charged separately) and we welcome January entries as well.
To request an audition, please email Kate Wallace at schooladmin@skam.ca and Kate will send you the audition package.
